Good news for the month of June!
As of June 7, 2022, the Minister of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship, announced enhancements to Canada’s Super Visa program for parents and grandparents to easily reunite with their families in Canada and stay for a longer period of time. The enhancements will take effect on July 4, 2022.
The program enhancements include:

Since 2011, the Super Visa Canada Program is a popular option for Canadian citizens and permanent residents to reunite with their parents and grandparents in Canada.
For eligibility requirements, the Super Visa applicant must:
- be the parent or grandparent of a Canadian citizen or a permanent resident of Canada
- provide an invitation letter from your child or grandchild with the following information:
- a promise of financial support for the length of your visit
- the list and number of people in the household of the inviter
- a copy of the inviter’s Canadian citizenship or permanent resident document
- have medical insurance from a Canadian insurance company that is:
- valid for at least 1 year from the date of entry
- at least $100,000 coverage
- have proof that the medical insurance has been paid (quotes are unacceptable)
- apply for a Super Visa from outside Canada
- be allowed to enter Canada
- take biometrics or medical examination as requested by IRCC
- any other conditions as may be determined by the visa officer
The child or grandchild who will invite the Super Visa applicant must prove that their household meets the minimum necessary income. Any of the following documents may be provided as proof of funds:
- Notice of Assessment (NOA) or T4/T1 for the most recent tax year
- Latest employment letter including salary and date of hire
- Pay/salary stubs
- Latest bank statements
- Employment insurance
As a reminder, the Super Visa is still under the category of a temporary visa. As such, it is expected that the holder of a super visa is a genuine visitor who will leave by choice at the end of his/her visit. At the onset of application, the visa officer will also look into matters such as home ties, the purpose of visit, your family and finances, and the overall economic and political stability of the applicant’s home country, among others.
